Move over Genie+, there’s a new skip the lines system on the block, and it’s one guests have been waiting a long time for.

Walt Disney World has just announced that starting July 24th 2024, Genie+ will no longer be operating in the parks, and is to be replaced by a brand new system. Genie+ will be renamed to Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Individual Lightning Lanes will also see a name change to Lighting Lane Single Pass. As well as a name change, the system will receive a huge overhaul, allowing guests to have more flexibility when it comes to the planning of their Walt Disney World vacation.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass will give guests the opportunity to select three attractions in advance for each day they choose to purchase the Multi Pass for. On top of this guests will be able to confirm their rides and times before making the purchase. Each day a guest decides to use Multi Pass for can be bought in advance, whether individually or all at the same time, giving guests more flexibility when it comes to planning out their vacation.

Single Lane Multi Pass will remain a similar process to the current Individual Lightning Lanes. The only big change being that these will be available to purchase in advance of your trip.

Guests staying on site at any of the resort hotels will be able to make their Multi Pass and Single Pass purchases up to seven days in advance of their trip for up to fourteen days total. Other guests, including those staying off site, will be able to purchase Multi and Single Passes three days in advance of each day of their trip.

Disney’s newest ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, opening later this week on June 28th, will not be considered a Single Pass, and will be included in the Multi Pass offerings.

This change comes after years of complaints from Disney fans in regards to the Genie+ system. There has been a call for change since the implementation of the system back in October 2021 when Genie+ replaced FastPass+. Multi Pass mimics the features of FastPass+, the one major difference being the swap from free to paid. It seems Disney has acknowledged their mistakes somewhat in reverting to a new version of a skip the lines system that was once loved by many visitors.

These changes will also be implemented at Disneyland Resort on July 24th, although purchase and use in the parks will remain unchanged as of right now.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass is also being introduced after Disney made recent major changes to their Disability Access Service (DAS). Eligibility requirements were changed in an effort to curb abuse of the system by those who do not need it. Disney have faced major backlash for these changes, and so the timing of this change to Genie+ seems rather suspicious. Is this another tool to try and prevent DAS abuse? Or has this truly come from listening to guest feedback?

Guests have been complaining about the need to be on your phone in the parks for a while now, and with this new system that is partially resolved. Of course once you are in the park you will still need to make selections as your day progresses, but with the new Multi Pass system guests can be assured that they have three attractions already selected and ready to go each day, having another tool under their belt to create as many magical memories as possible at Walt Disney World.
